G.O. 011 - Chez Brungraber, Efficient Ecosystem Expert

Chez Brungraber is intrinsically linked to nature. As a botanist and wildlife biologist, her relationship with and understanding of the outdoors is what makes her a successful scientist. A lifelong love of plant-life has inspired her to spend as much time as possible outside, both professionally and recreationally. Travel and backpacking are two of her passions and they have carried her around the world including Nepal and Kenya. She is also the founder of Gobi Gear, an outdoor gear company focusing on efficient and reliable equipment, particularly stuff sacks. She and Jason spoke on Skype about her travels, volunteering in Kenya, ultimate frisbee, and the story behind Gobi Gear.

G.O. 008 - Chris Kalous Continues With Style

If you are a climber, it is likely you have heard of the Enormocast, the preeminent climbing podcast. For four years, Chris Kalous has interviewed climbers from around the world and shared them with the internet. Chris is not merely a podcaster, he is also an accomplished climber and journalist capable of inciting intense rage from over-serious aid climbers. Chris allowed Jason into his hotel room at the Outdoor Retailer Show where they discussed how climbing has shaped his life and why he became a podcaster. They may have even unintentionally insulted golfers and football players along the way.

G.O. 006 - Dusty Hulet, Yellowstone Legend

Dusty Hulet may not have been born in a tent—perhaps to his father’s chagrin—but he did grow up never missing a Boy Scout camp-out. Being raised in an active outdoor family laid a foundation for adventure in him that continues to grow. He makes a living as an entrepreneur and filmmaker, occasionally crawling through bear dens, and pursues a variety of activities on the side. He can be found in the snow or in raging rivers, perhaps even on horseback. He was once responsible for the lives and good times of many vacationers seated on his Alaskan tour bus and is to blame for the temporary sitings of the elusive Yellowstone Gorilla. Jason found him momentarily in Liberty Park in Salt Lake City where they chatted about his life instead of allowing him to prepare for a trip to Haiti.

G.O. 005 - Dirtbagging with Nhung Luong

Nhung Luong is scared of bears, but not of traveling the world solo. Her global travels began as a newborn when her family struggled to escape persecution in Vietnam, ultimately finding a new home in Australia. Recently she threw herself into a three-month nomadic adventure across the united States letting fate and circumstance decide her course. Much of her trip has involved climbing throughout the states and adopting the dirtbag lifestyle. Although traveling solo, she has spent very little time alone having acquired new friends from across the globe. She and Jason initially met climbing in Nevada and reunited in Yosemite’s Camp 4 to discuss how her wanderings have affected her perspective on life.

G.O. 002 - Canyon Lessons and Klaus Gerhart

Klaus Gerhart wasn’t always active outdoors. There was a time when his primary exercise was operating a television remote. Several years ago he decided to journey outside and the course of his life changed drastically. The discovery of technical canyoneering ended any desire to return to a sedentary existence. A few years later he would be recognized as an expert in the field. He is the founder of Uber Adventures, a Los Angeles based training school and gear shop specializing in canyoneering. Jason joined him in his air-conditioned shop in heat-ridden Chatsworth to discuss what drew him to canyoneering and how it has impacted his life.
